About Microsoft SharePoint
Document libraries and team sites inside Microsoft 365, with versioning, permissions and search across Teams files.
SharePoint is the document layer of Microsoft 365. Every Teams channel stores its files in a SharePoint library, so many companies already run on it without setting it up on purpose. Libraries support versions, check-out, metadata columns, approval flows and permissions inherited from sites and groups.
Microsoft 365 Copilot can answer questions from SharePoint content the user is allowed to see, which makes permission hygiene more important: an overshared folder becomes an overshared answer. Microsoft Purview adds retention labels, sensitivity labels and eDiscovery on top.
Plan site and library structure before migrating, review sharing links and "Everyone" permissions, and decide which content types need metadata so search and AI answers have something reliable to work with. It is often the default choice simply because it is already paid for.
