ABBYY has made OCR software for decades, and its current products read documents such as invoices, purchase orders, forms and identity papers and turn them into structured data. Pre-trained document skills cover common types, and teams can train new ones for their own layouts.
In a typical setup, documents arrive by email, scanner or upload, the system classifies them, extracts fields like vendor, total and due date, and sends anything with low confidence to a person for review before the data moves into an ERP or accounting system.
When you evaluate it, test with your own messy samples, including poor scans and handwriting, and measure how many documents need human review. Ask where processing happens, how long documents are kept, and how the review queue fits your approval controls.
